Today I had the pleasure of watching a crew from Sinclair Construction install twelve new stop signs and five metal poles. While that was happening, a five man crew repaired the intersection of Canoe and Cheyenne.
It all started when I got a call this morning at 6:00 a.m. from John, one of Sinclair crew captain, who told me they were stationed at Canoe and Cheyenne awaiting my instructions. I tossed my cup of hot coffee into the sink, grab my jacket and told him I would be there in three minutes.
Upon arrival, seven guys in yellow vests and hard hats were setting up machines, equipment and cones. I introduced myself to John and said, Take care of this pot hole and anything else 3,500 dollars will get us. He said, “No problem, I’ve got two tons of pavement that will be here in thirty minutes.”
I whipped out my camera, found the high ground and starting taking pictures. It was poetry in motion. Four were shoveling steaming hot pavement, two were raking and one was tramping. And on it went with jack hammering, digging, marking, leveling scraping etc. Never have I’ve seen such attention to detail. If you think the work ethic is dead, you better check out the attached videos.
Homeowners were driving by giving us the high sign. Apparently no one likes pot holes.
We finished the day by installing twelve shiny new stop signs. We had to install five metal
poles and all the signs are six feet high, as required in rural areas. The city requires seven feet.
It was a productive day and way over due. People came out of their houses to thank us for the stop signs.
